Monday Mar. 4/13
Airdrie Thunder 4 (OT)
Red Deer Vipers 5

Second consecutive overtime loss ends the season for Airdrie!
Game six of the Heritage League North Division semi final was similar to the previous four games; all very close games which could have gone either way on the win column. Unfortunately Red Deer got the advantage in three of the the last five games and that sent Team Thunder to and early exit from the playoffs. The Monday night hockey contest in Airdrie was another classic with both teams working hard to gain the momentum. Red Deer opened the scoring and never were behind in this game; however Airdrie continued to come back. At the end of the second period, Red Deer held a two goal advantage; a month or so ago that would have spelled the end for Airdrie, but in these playoffs Team Thunder never gave-up and they scored two third period markers to send the game into overtime. As was the case on Saturday night in Red Deer; Team Thunder controlled the play in the overtime, however it was the Vipers who managed to score! In the series ending overtime period, the winning goal was a somewhat tainted goal but in the end it still ended the season for Airdrie.
Daniel Hounjet was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Taylor Crossley was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game..

Saturday Mar. 2/13
Airdrie Thunder 3  (OT)
Red Deer Vipers  4

Tough to lose in overtime, double overtime is twice as tough!
Team Thunder and the Red Deer Vipers couldn't get a game decision after three periods of play so they played two overtime periods before the Vipers ended the affair. In spite of losing the game, this was a good road game for Airdrie because of the work ethic they showed. These two teams have provided extremely good entertaining hockey and have shown a lot af grit and heart playing three games in three nights as well as a couple of overtime periods; fans in both cities should get out and show their appreciation of their home town teams.

Friday Mar.  1/13
Airdrie Thunder   3
Red Deer Vipers  1

Finally, a strong third period for Team Thunder!
Airdrie Thunder bounced back from a loss in Red Deer less than 24 hours earlier to even the division semi final series at 2 wins each. Airdrie opened the scoring in the first period, but the Vipers evened the score at 1 before the first period buzzer sounded; both goals were scored on the power play. Although Red Deer clearly outshot Airdrie in the second period, they didn't convert any of their chances into goals and Team Thunder was able to turn the tables in the third period by scoring two.
This was the best 60 minutes of hockey Team Thunder has put together in Airdrie since way back at the start of the season. If they can put together another couple of games like they had tonight good things will happen for them in the 2013 playoffs. These two teams continue the hockey marathon with game five in Red Deer tomorrow night, and game six returns to Airdrie at 8:00pm on Monday night
Daniel Hounjet was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Kade Taplin was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.
Scoring:
First period
1) Alex Diduch from Crossley and Hustad   (PP)

The Vipers strike at home again!

Thursday Feb. 28/13
Airdrie Thunder 2
Red Deer Vipers 4

Bad start proves costly!
The Vipers struck for two goals before six minutes of play was completed and that was the difference in this contest; the two teams scored two goals each over the next 54 minutes. From a purely entertainment perspective, this was a good game, however by the third period the play had digressed to a chippy, sloppy contest, with more braun than skill on display.
Game 4 of this series returns to Airdrie on Friday at 8:00pm; all Thunder fans should turn out to take in what promises to be a very entertaining affair.
Scoring:

Sunday Feb. 24/13
Airdrie Thunder  5
Red Deer Vipers 4

Gutsy performance by Team Thunder!
Airdrie Thunder redemmed themselves in front of their hometown fans as they held on to win game two of this playoff series. As has become a familiar trend; Airdrie dominates the game for forty minutes and then lets the opposition get back into the game with a dismal thrid period effort.
Team Thunder used hard work to gain a two period, 5 - 2 advantage in spite of the many disruptions as a result of numerous penalties, however they did take advantage of their powerplay opportunities scoring four of their five goals on the powerplay. Unfortunately they are having trouble holding their leads in the third period and once again Sunday was no exception as the Vipers responded with two third period goals to come within a whisker of sending the game into overtime.
The series resumes again on Thursday in Red Deer and hopefully Airdrie can put on another good performance, this time in front of the Vipers fans.
Alex Hustad was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Ryan Gould was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Saturday Feb. 23/13
Airdrie Thunder  2
Red Deer Vipers  10

Disappointing effort in Red Deer!
Game one of the 2013 Heritage League Northern division semi-finals was a great game for the Vipers! Eight straight powerplay goals spelled disaster for Team Thunder. Airdrie didn't put up much resistance or push-bank in this game and if they don't turn the attitude around in the next 12 hours this will be a short playoff series..

Friday Feb. 15/13
Airdrie Thunder 4
Blackfalds Wranglers  6

Thunderous third period disaster in Airdrie!
Once again Team Thunder had the games outcome in their control until they got into the third period action, then the roof fell in and a loss was snatched from the jaws of victory. This time the Wranglers notched four third period goals to come from a 4 - 2 deficit to claim the win at 4 - 6. This is a very distrubing trend that Airdrie thunder has demonstrated over the past few weeks and if it continues the team can expect a tough run in the playoffs. This was a game that Airdrie should have won, they weren't outplayed by the Wranglers, they just went into panic mode when they had the third period lead and the Wranglers moved the puck into Airdrie's defensive zone, then the give-aways began. The Wranglers didn't win so much as Airdrie gave away the win.
Alex Hustad was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Ashton Sheen was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Airdrie Thunder  4
Three Hills Thrashers  3

Team Thunder wins a game that was important for both teams!
Airdrie Thunder travelled to Three Hills on Saturday night to battle with the Thrashers in a game that had playoff implications. An Airdrie loss would mean that the Thrashers would have a good chance to pass Airdrie in the standings and take over third place, however another strong forty minutes insured Team Thunder of a big win.

Friday Feb.  1/13
Airdrie Thunder  4
Stettler Lightning  2

Team Thunder holds on to garner the win!
Airdrie Thunder played another forty good minutes of hockey but the last twenty minutes were far from classic, however they managed to hang on to complete the victory on Friday night in Airdrie. This has been a disturbing trend over the past few games where Airdrie gets off to a good start, even jumping out to a lead and then letting the opposition get back into the game or even posting the win as was the case just one week ago. Airdrie held a 4 - 0 lead with less than 22 minutes remaining in regulation time when Stettler notched their first goal and if it wasn't for some outstanding saves by Team Thunder goalie, Kade Taplin, this game may have ended up as a dissappointing loss as well. Hopefully Team Thunder will shore up their third period play over their remaining games so that their playoffs will last much longer than they did last year
Tyler Perkins was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Kade Taplin was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Saturday Jan. 26/13
Airdrie Thunder  6
Mountainview Colts  2

Team Thunder rebounds from dissappointing loss!
Airdrie Thunder got off to another quick start and jumped into an early first period lead on Saturday night in Didsbury, however  on this occassion they didn't collapse in the third period and went home with a well deserved win. Team Thunder used their specialty team to their advantage as their powerplay accounted for three goals while the penalty killers managed to kill off all but one of the Mountainview chances.
Team Thunder returns to action at 8:00pm in Airdrie on Friday night versus the Stettler Lightning. This will be the second last regular season home game; fans should be sure to take in these last two regular season games as they should prove to be very entertaining.

Friday Jan. 25/13
Airdrie Thunder 4
Coaldale Copperheads  5

Forty minutes of solid play is not enough!
Team Thunder got off to a great start on Friday night in Airdrie, but unfortunately they couldn't carry it through to the end of the game. Airdrie started the scoring at the 7:34 mark of the first period and by the 10:00 minute mark they had a 3 - 0 lead. Unfortunately thats where the splurge of goals ended; Team Thunder added their fourth goal midway through the second period after the Copperheads had hit the scoreboard with their first of the game. After two periods of play Airdrie still maintained a 4 - 1 advantage, thats when they should have focused on controlling the pace of the game, instead they broke down defensively and allowed the Copperheads to score 4 third period unanswered goals to steal a win.
In spite of the two period lead which Team Thunder enjoyed, this was the worst junior B game that has been played in Airdrie this season, the only good thing that came out of this game was the fact that we won't have to deal with Coaldale again this hockey season
Matt Flette was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Tannor Kocis was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Airdrie Thunder 3
Coaldale Copperheads  4

Lack of focus and finish costly again!
Team Thunder travelled to Coaldale on Saturday afternoon to battle with the hometown Copperheads. The trip turned out to be a dissappointing excursion as Airdrie fell short on the scoreboard. Once again the lack of finish in the offensive zone turned out to be costly on the win column. This was a game that Airdrie should have won and could have won but in spite of a good effort they didn't win

Friday Jan. 18/13
Airdrie Thunder 3  (ot)
Cochrane Generals  2

Thunder scores with only 2 seconds of overtime left!
Team Thunder made the Cochrane goaltender earn his pay on Friday night in Airdrie, however in spite of firing fifty shots on the Generals net they could only muster three goals and with any luck at all the outcome could have been different. The Airdrie sharp-shooters seem to be having some trouble getting their sights adjusted properly and are having a hard time depositing the puck behind the opponents goaltender. Apart from the lack of finish in the offensive zone, Team Thunder dominated the game in terms of territorial play and shots on net. (50 - 27), and the only time the Generals had any sustained pressure was on the power play. Each team had their chance during the overtime period as both teams were awarded a powerplay opportunity, however Team Thunder managed to score on their chance while Cochrane failed on theirs.

Friday Jan. 11/13
Airdrie Thunder  4
Red Deer Vipers  3

Good work ethic results in a big win!
Team Thunder used an effective penalty kill to help them to their first win of the new year. In spite of the good work on the penalty kills, all of the Red Deer goals came on the power play; however Airdrie did get one shorthanded goal and they also added one goal on the PP. Airdrie started the game quickly scoring two first period goals and adding two more in the second period; unfortunately a massive number of penalties.in the third period resulted in no goals during the final twenty minutes.
Donavon Henrion was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Taylor Crosssly was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Airdrie Thunder  3
Blackfalds Wranglers   6

Good work ethic but still no win!
The Tuesday night game in Blackfalds closed out with another Wangler victory, this time Team Thunder fell victim to the mid week hockey match. Although the scoreboard didn't turn out the way Airdrie had planned, this was a good game. Team Thunder had a first period lead of 2 - 1 and they were tied at three after forty minutes of play, however the third period did not go well for Airdrie as the Wranglers scored the only goals of the period to notch the win. In spite of the loss Airdrie played well and hopefullhy that momentum will carry over to the next game.

Friday Jan.  4/13
Airdrie Thunder  1
Mountainview Colts  4

Lots of scoring chances, but no goals!
Its a New Year but the  same old problems are still hanging around for Team Thunder; no one on the team seems to be able to spark a scoring outburst. Airdrie had plenty of chance to score in this game especially in the second period, however most of their shots went into the goaltender's crest. Along with all of the misses around the net; the team looked very rusty; the passes were not sharp and the timing of shots and passing were out of sync.

A long road trip after a tough game the night before was a little too much for the Airdrie Thunder on Saturday afternoon in Medicine Hat. The Cubs began their comeback with just 34 seconds left in the second period and completed it with 2 unanswered third period markers.

Friday Dec. 21/12
Airdrie Thunder  3
Strathmore Wheatland Kings 0

Team Thunder slams the goal door on the Kings!
It was a cold night outside the Ron Ebessen arena on Friday night and Team Thunder gave the Wheatland Kings a cold reception on the ice as well. Airdrie kept the Kings off the scoreboard for the entire game in spite of serveral 3 on 5 powerplay chances afforded Strathmore throughout the game. Airdrie was the much superior team on this night in every aspect of the game. They killed off all of the Strathmore power play chances; Team Thunder goaltender, James Fisk, stopped two clear break-away chances by the Kings; and the Airdrie offence managed to notch a power play goal.
Airdrie got a good start to the game with two first period goals; the first of which was a power play goal that was scored after only 1:33 of play in the period and just 14 seconds after the penalty was called. Team Thunder then held Strathmore off the scoreboard and added their final goal in the third period on an unassisted effort by Tyler Perkins.

Sunday Dec. 16/12
Airdrie Thunder  1
Okotoks Bisons  3

Lack of scoring costly for Thunder!
Airdrie had a good situation going into Okotoks on Sunday afternoon as they were catching the Bisons on their third game in three days, unfortunately they weren't able to take advantage. The loss wasn't from a lack of effort or lack of scoring opportunities, considering the break-away chances and odd man rushes they enjoyed, the problem boils down to a lack of finish in the offensive zone. This game would have had a different result  if Airdrie could have scored on one of the break-away chances they had, or one of the several 2 on 1 chances they had, or on one of the power-play chances they enjoyed. Hopefully the scoring problem will be resolved soon as the season is getting shorter fast.

Friday Dec.  14/12
Airdrie Thunder  6
Three Hills Thrashers  2

Team Thunder rebounds for another big win at home!
Friday night in Airdrie was the scene of a very fast paced and entertaining hockey game. Three Hills fired the first volley in the battle between these two rivals, however Airdrie bounced back with the next two goals to take the lead which they would never relinquish. The first period ended with Team Thunder holding a 2 - 1 advantage. Airdrie kept up the pressure through the second period and added to their lead, taking a 4-1 lead into the third period. The Thrashers pulled out all the stops in the third period and closed the gap with their second goal of the game, however once again Team Thunder dashed the hopes of the visitors with two more goals to make the final talley 6 - 2.
Alex Hustad was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Matt Flette was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Tired Thunder Team drops a close game at home!
For two periods on Sunday afternoon, the outcome of the game was totally undecided, however the final frame didn't go the way it was written in the script. Although Airdrie badly outshot the visitors during the last twenty minutes, it was the Cubs who made their shots count as they outscored Airdrie by a 1 - 3 margin. This loss could be attributed not only to physical fatigue, but also mental fatigue as a couple of defensive blunders led to the Medicine Hat chances.

Team Thunder breaks the Thrasher curse!
Airdrie Thunder came to play on Saturday night and had a great game in the home of the Thrashers. Airdrie didn't give Three Hills any room to operate, and the Thrashers frustration resulted in Thunder goals. Airdrie dominated on both the shot clock  ( 45 - 28) and on the scoreboard with half of their goals coming on the powerplay. James Fisk played in goal for Team Thunder, stopping all 28 shots.
Since the NHL hasn't returned to the game yet, Airdrie hockey fans should come out for Sunday's encouter against the visiting Medicine Hat Cubs.

Airdrie Thunder  9
Ponoka Stampeders  1

Team Thunder rebounds for a big win at home!
The Ponoka Stampeders hung in for about half a period and their goaltender held them in the game until the early part of the second period before the 'roof fell in' on the Stampeder's game and once that happened, Airdrie surged ahead on the scoreboard. Team Thunder simply wore out the Stampeders goaltender after blasting 21 first period shots on goal and a total of 53 shots for the game. Airdrie used their team speed to their advantage and forced the Stampeders to battle the whole game inside their own defensive zone. This resulted in lots of shots and scoring chances.

For the second consecutive night, a rash of penalties prevented Airdrie from building any momentum in the game, however this time the result was a loss. When Airdrie wasn't killing penalties they couldn't get beat the goaltender, so it hasn't been a great weekend for Team Thunder.

Friday Nov. 23/12
Airdrie Thunder  4   (OT)
Banff Academy Bears  4

Too much time in the penalty box cost the Thunder!
The Banff Academy Bears played a strong sixty-five minutes of hockey and forced Airdrie into a tie on Friday night in Airdrie. The Bears  held a 0 - 2 goal advantage after the first period as a result of their hard work and were deserving of their first period lead, however Airdrie bounced back with three second period goals to take a brief one goal lead. Thats when the penalties started. All that momentum of the second period was lost when the referee sent a parade of Thunder players to the penalty box. This game would have had a much different result if not for those final five minutes of the second period. It took until the twelve minute mark of the third period before Team Thunder got back on even terms. Banff scored the go ahead marker on a third period power play goal, however Airdrie battled back with a power play goal of their own to tie the game. The overtime period didn't settle anything in spite of the fact both teams enjoyed some powerplay time in overtime.
Alex Diduch was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Curtis Bunney was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Airdrie can't find the scoring touch!
Airdrie held the advantage in shots on net, however they couldn't seem to get control of the puck around the Colt's net. The Colts managed to end the first period with a 0 - 1 goal scoring advantage and that first period win proved to be the difference in the game. The Colts came out strong in the second period, however the teams tied the period at 2 goals each. Again Airdrie poured on the pressure during the third period, but they just couldn't get the bounces going their way around the net.
Tyler Perkins was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Justin Millson was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Airdrie wins on the road for second straight night!
Team Thunder went up the road to Didsbury on Saturday night and persevered in enemy territory to earn two hard fought points. Airdrie used their speed to their advantage and jumped into an early first period lead by scoring three goals in the first frame; they went on to add to their lead building up to a 6 - 1 advantage before the Colts made the score 6 - 3 late in the final frame. Once again the Team Thunder opponent felt that physical intimidation was the way to defeat Airdrie, but once again the strategy didn't work and Team Thunder added another 'W' to their total.

Airdrie Thunder 4
High River Flyers  3

Team Thunder wins a Friday night road game!
In a break from tradition, Airdrie Thunder took to the road for a Friday night game. The change was a good experience for Team Thunder as they left the hosts on the wrong end of a 4 - 3 score. Airdrie jumped off to a good start getting ahead 2 - 0 after the first period, however the Flyers pushed back and went ahead 2 - 3 for a while, but Team Thunder was resilient and evened the score before finally notching the winning goal with just one minute left in the third period. The Flyers felt their best tactic to defeat Airdrie was to try and use physical intimidation, however the strategy didn't work and Team Thunder logged another 'w'.

Airdrie Thunder pulls out the extra point in OT!
The game in Airdrie on Friday night wasn't the best display of hockey we've seen from Team Thunder so far this year, but it did earn the team two points. A slow start gave the Lightning a big momentum boost and they responded by scoring the first goal of the game. Stettler went on to never trail on the scoreboard until the overtime goal having a first period 0 - 1 lead and a second period 1 - 2 advantage. Airdrie scored early in the third period to tie the game and eventually force overtime. Airdrie had the momentum in overtime and finally forced a Stettler rebound that ended up in the back of the net for an exciting OT victory

Airdrie Thunder 4 (OT)
Okotoks Bisons  4

Okotoks Bisons hold Team Thunder to a tie!
Team Thunder had a strong first period in which they were rewarded for their efforts with a 2 - 0 lead. Airdrie held a huge edge in territorial play and in shots on goal during that first frame, however the Bisons managed to turn the tables during the second period and came out with a strong effort of their own to balance out the shots and the score. After 40 minutes of play, the game was knotted at 3 each.
The third period was once again controlled by Team Thunder, but a bad defensive decision gave the Bisons a break while Airdrie was on a power-play and the Bisons took advantage with a short handed goal to take the lead at 3 - 4. Team Thunder never gave up and finally notched the tieing goal with just over one minute left in the third period. Airdrie had the best chances in overtime, however they couldn't put the puck away even on a partial breakaway.

Team Thunder earns five of six weekend points!
For the second game in less than 24 hours,Team Thunder relied on good discipline and team play to get another tough road win. Airdrie had this game under control for most of the sixty minutes, but the legs started to give out a bit during the third period and Banff managed to close the scoring gap a little but couldn't get the tying goal, largely due to another outstanding performance in net by Kade Taplin

Blackfalds Wranglers  5

Team Thunder played better, but not good enough!
Airdrie Thunder played a much better game on Friday night in Airdrie than they did in the last few games, however they still made some disastrous defensive blunders that cost them a win. Four of the five Wrangler goals came as a result of Blackfalds shooters getting behind the Airdrie defence and skating in unobstructed on the Thunder goaltender. Although Airdrie has made great improvements since their embarassing loss last weekend; they still have to improve both offensively and defensively before they can compete with the elite teams of the league.
Taysen Holt was named the Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Tanner Kocis was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Airdrie Thunder blasts their way tp a huge victory!
It took over 12 minutes of the first period before Airdrie notched their first goal, but then the goals came fast and furious after that and Team Thunder went on to a 10 goal shutout! Although the score and shots on goal were quite one sided, Team Thunder still had to work hard to keep the pesky Stampeders from building any momentum. The Stampeders did gain some late game momentum and even hit the goal post on one occassion, however Airdrie's Brett Monkman stopped all of Ponoka's 18 shots on goal in recording the team's first shutout of the season.

Airdrie Thunder 1
Three Hills Thrashers 4

Thrashers spoil the home opener!
For the second consecutive year, the Three Hills Thrashers spoiled the Thunder's home opener as they outscored Airdrie by a 1 - 4 advantage. Airdrie outshot their guests by a wide margin, but they didn't take high quality shots, therefore the Thrashers goaltender just had to stand steady and the Thunder shooters just drove the puck into his pads. Team Thunder played well but they made a few mistakes defensively and the Trashers were able to take advantage of these defensive blunders; unfortunately Airdrie couldn't make Three Hills pay for the Thrashers mistakes!
Team Thunder's demise was partly caused by a lack of production on their power plays as the Thrashers were assessed serveral penalties however Team Thunder wasn't able to take advantage; as a matter of fact their power play was nothing short of anemic!
Kade Taplin played all 60 minutes in goal for Airdrie stopping 22 of the 26 Three Hills shots.
Dylan Johnston was named Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game and Ashton Sheen was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Team Thunder drops their final pre-season game!
After three games in three nights the fatigue finally caught up to the new version of the Airdrie Thunder and they lost their first game of the 2012-2012 season. This was a very chippy game and Team Thunder stood up to the challange with flying colours! Airdrie was fast out of the gate again, notching three first period markers to end the first frame with a 3 - 1 lead, but the legs just couldn't hold up for the balance of the game, in spite of outshoting the hosts by a 39 to 32 margin.
Brett Monkman, and Taplin split the duties in net for Airdrie.

Airdrie Thunder blast a big win in Red Deer!
The Red Deer Vipers just couldn't handle the speed of the Thunder on Saturday night in Red Deer and the result was a one sided win for Airdrie. Team Thunder started fast and kept the "pedal to the metal" until the game was well out of reach for the Vipers. In spite of allowing 9 goals in this game, the Vipers did hold Airdrie off the score sheet in the third period

Team Thunder overcome a Bison attack!
Airdrie Thunder had a great first period, despite a strong couple of early shifts by the Bisons. Once Airdrie weathered the early attack by Okotoks, they turned the play into the Bison's zone and scored four first period goals to send the shocked Bisons to the first period break to regroup and analyse their play. Airdrie continued to play well in both ends of the ice and force the Bisons to making costly mistakes that resulted in more Team Thunder goals. The two teams scored two goals each in each of the final two periods of the game, but the first period outburst proved to be the differance in this match.

Team Thunder opens the pre-season with a win!
It wasn't a classic victory but it is always good to start your season with a win even if it is an exhibition game! The Team Thunder offence was able to generate a lot of good scoring opportunities throughout the game even though the passes were sometimes a little off. Defensively, Airdrie was pretty sound, only allowing a couple of odd man rushes throughout the game and they were able to limit the Colts scoring chances.
These two teams return to action again on Saturday night in Didsbury at 8:00pm.

Team Thunder hosts their annual Red / White game

Sept. 4/12
Team Thunder, Red 7
Team Thunder, White 8

The annual Airdrie Thunder "Red & White" game was held on labour day Monday afternoon, and once again the Airdrie Thunder prospects put on a great hockey show. The game was a 'back and forth affair and both teams looked evenly matched. The White Team held the first period advantage with a 3 - 2 score. As usual the vets led the way on the scoresheet with Daniel Hounjet giving Team White the lead with a penalty shot goal. Team Red made a huge second period push as they outscored their opponents by a 5 - 1 margin and lead 7 - 4 after forty minutes of play. This time the scoring was spread among five different players. Team White came storming back in the third period and held Team Red of the scoresheet while notching 4 goals to take a 1 goal lead to the final buzzer. Team White's Daniel Hounjet lead the vets with 4 goals.
As usual Team Thunder enters the new season with optimism, and confidence that they have the right components to go deep into the playoffs after a successful season; we'll have to wait until next year to find out if all that confidence will translate into results in the standings.

Friday Jan. 20/12
Airdrie Thunder 4
Blackfalds Ford Wranglers  1

Team Thunder skates to victory at home!
Team Thunder played one of their better games on Friday night in Airdrie and the result was an impressive win over the Blackfalds Wranglers. Airdrie had built up a four goal advantage before the Wranglers managed to get on the scoreboard; that in spite of the fact that Airdrie had to kill off a few penalties during that time including a 3 on 5 disadvantage. However the Wranglers had their problems with penalties, and Team Thunder took advantage by firing two power play goals, both of them in the first period.
This was a very good game to watch and all the fans that missed this one missed a fast, exciting game between two very closely matched teams.
Travis Wallan was named Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game and Marcus Cheng was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Friday Jan. 13/12
Airdrie Thunder 4
Red Deer Vipers  5

Bad start costs the Thunder!
A first period seven minute penalty set the tone for this game and gave the momentum to the visiting Vipers who were quick to take advantage. Although the Vipers didn't score on that powerplay, Team Thunder never got on track until the third period when they were behind by two goals. Red Deer outscored Airdrie by counts of 1 - 2 in each of the first two periods to take a 2 - 4 lead into the final frame and although Airdrie reversed the trend and outscored the Vipers 2 - 1 in the third, it wasn't quite enough to get back to even.
Matt Flette was named Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game and Ashton Sheen was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Friday Jan.  6/12
Airdrie Thunder 3
Mountainview Colts  3

No decision in first game of 2012!
The first game of 2012 showed a lot of rust had gathered on the Thunderous Team system. The passing was off, the timing was off and overall the game was off just enough to make for a sloppy game. The work ethic was still evident, but it wasn't enough to earn that extra point for Team Thunder. Airdrie got off to a relatively good start, jumping out to a 2 - 0 lead, but penalties and a strong push back by the Colts in the second period turned the tide and at the end of two periods the Colts held a 2 - 3 lead. Airdrie tied the game in the third and the overtime decided nothing and so the game ended with the teams sharing the two points.
Alex Hustad was named Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game and Taylor Crossley was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Airdrie Thunder 3
Stettler Lightning 2

Airdrie wins in the third at home!
Team Thunder dominated on the shot clock but had to come from behind to get the win on Friday night in Airdrie. Team Thunder came out strong in the first period; badly outshooting the Lightning but the had nothing to show for their efforts after twenty minutes of play. They got into penalty trouble in the second period and the Lighting took advantage and jumped ahead by two goals leaving Airdrie looking at a 0 - 2 score going into the third period. Team Thunder made a big rally in the final frame scoring three times to finally get in front on the scoreboard and logging the two points

Airdrie wins by a landslide on the road!
Team Thunder dominated on the shot clock and also on the scoreboard and it was a game that they still could have played better. The second game in two nights caused a little drag on the Thunder legs, but they had enough to garner another two point night. Blackfalds Ford Wranglers 2

Team Thunder wins an impotant game at home!
Airdrie Thunder ground out a hard fought victory at home on Friday night against the North Division leaders. The game was fast and exciting with Airdrie getting a 2 - 0 first period lead and battling their way through the next two periods to solidify the two points. Airdrie made things difficult for themselves by taking a minor penalty when the Wranglers were trying to tie the game with less than two minutes to play in the thrid period and their goalie pulled in favour of the extra attacker. Fortunately Team Thunder managed to hang onto their lead and went to the dressing room after heaving a collective sigh of releif.

Team Thunder wins second one on the road!
Team Thunder ground out another hard fought road victory in Stettler on Sunday afternoon. The weekend was one of the most successful for Team Thunder in recent memory; three wins in three nights; two of the wins were on the road.  This shows what this team is capable of, and if they apply themselves as a team, they will go a long way this season. Today's game was highlighted by good defensive play and an effective offensive push to control the game and solidify the win

Team Thunder wins one on the road!
Team Thunder ground out a hard fought road vistory in Red Deer on Saturday night. This game was made more difficult by the fact that it was their second game in twenty four hours. The last week has seen a much improved Airdrie Thunder team; they have been playing much more of a "team" game than they had over the past month or so. The new attitude has resulted in a couple of wins. It's not over yet though as they get back at it again tommorow for their third game of the weekend. That is going to be another good test of the new attitude Thunder..

Airdrie Thunder rushes to a victory in Airdrie!
Team Thunder scored their first goal after just 48 seconds of play in the first period.  They then went on to add two goals in each of the second and third periods to log the two points in the win column! Airdrie won this game by using a relentless forecheck, a determined backchecking game, and by logging lots of shots on goal to wear down the only goalie the Stampeders had. Shots in this game were decidedly one sided as Airdrie took 52 shots on goal, while the Stampeders managed only 15 shots on the Airdrie net.
Kristian Petit was named Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game, and Tyler Crossley was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.

Special teams are the differance in Airdrie!
Team Thunder scored goals with the power-play, when shorthanded and even strength to overcome the Mountainview Colts on Friday night in Airdrie! This wasn't the best game to watch as there were far too many penalties, but the special teams got a chance to show their stuff; including a huge 3 on 5 Colts power play for 4 minutes in the third period. Team Thunder managed to battle through all of the adversity and come out of the evening with the much needed two points.

Friday Nov. 18/11
Airdrie Thunder 4
Red Deer Vipers  5

Defensive lapses prove costly!
Team Thunder has a problem keeping up with the scoring of the opposition! Once again on Friday night in Airdrie, Team Thiunder was playing "catch-up" all night!  Red Deer notched the first two goals of the game, but Airdrie got the next two and evened the score at 2 each. However Red Deer once again scored the next two goals. This time Airdrie only got one back before the Vipers struck Airdrie with the winning goal. Airdrie playedf well most of the game, but defensive coverage mistakes are really hurting Team Thunder; it seems that just when Airdrie is really ready to grab the momentum, another defensive mistake results in the huge loss of offensive flow. If this team can get a good consistant flow to their game they will be hard to stop; but they better get it together soon; the season is wearing on!!

Team Thunder suffers second loss of the weekend!
Penalties hurt! Airdrie spent too much time in the sin bin on Sunday afternoon in Medicine Hat; their on ice transgressions resulted in a Cubs advantage that Team Thunder couldn't overcome. The game was underscored by a lack of effort by a majority of the Thunder players and this resulted in penalties and the penalties resulted in goals by the opposition. On the road discipline is a must in order to be a championship team..

Friday Nov. 11/11
Airdrie Thunder 3
Three Hills Thrashers 4

Team Thunder suffers devasting defensive collapse!
Airdrie Thunder played 40 minutes of excellent hockey. They were quick on the transition play; they cleared rebounds from in front of their net; and they poured on the offence. All this hard work resulted in a well deserved 2 - 1 lead after forty minutes of play. Unfortunately they came out in the third period and let the Thrashers dictate the pace of the game; this questionable strategy resulted in 3 goals for the Thrashers and one goal for Airdrie in the final twenty minutes. The defensive collapse was especially hard to take when the Thrashers scored the winning goal on a short-handed effort. When Team Thunder jumped into a third period 3 - 1 lead they played like they only had to fill in the rest of the period before they notched the win; however the Thrasher decided to play the full sixty minutes and won the game by scoring 3 goals in the final four minutes of play!

Team Thunder struck with a powerfull offensive thrust and overwelmed the host Wranglers on Tuesday night in Blackfalds! Airdrie played this game more as a team than any other game this season and the results ended up on the scoreboard. Not only did Airdrie score a ton of goals; they also took a ton of penalties; but they managed to kill almost all of them off which shows how much they dominated the game.

Last minute goal defeats Team Thunder!
Airdrie Thunder battled from behind to finally tie the score at 3 with two third period goals, only to have the Generals salt away the game when they scored the winning goal with only 42 seconds remaining in the period!
Airdrie lost this game by allowing the Generals to score two devastating goals; the first was after only 54 seconds of play in the game and the second was with only 42 seconds remaining in regulation time. Team Thunder has to get more responsible defensively at those types of critical times in the games if they want to be a playoff bound team!

Team Thunder has no punch against the Kings!
Airdrie Thunder couldn't stop the puck from going into their own net on Friday night in Airdrie! In spite of outshooting Strathmore by a wide margin; the Kings got the most out of their shots and embarassed the Thunder in their own building. Airdrie had momentum; had lots of scoring chances; but the Kings had pressure on the puck at all times all over the ice and forced Team Thunder into lots of mistakes. The Kings deserve credit for not making similar mistakes when Airdrie put pressure on them. When they did make a mistake; their goalie managed to bail them out!

As indicated by the shots on goal, this game was controlled completely by Airdrie, and the Bears were never a threat to the high flying Thunder scorers

The Flyers were only able to apply offensive pressure when Team Thunder was shorthanded. The Airdrie penalty kill was up to the challenge, even when they had to kill a late game 3 on 5 disadvantage.

Bisons trample Team Thunder at home!

Friday Oct. 7/11
Airdrie Thunder 2
Okotoks Bisons  5

This period outburst puts the Bisons in front!
Team Thunder got on the scoreboard first with a powerplay goal at the 8:31 mark of the first period, but they couldn't find the range when they were playing five-on-five.The second Airdrie goal also came on the powerplay midway through the third period. Meanwhile the Bisons managed to notch two second period goals and three third period goals to round out the victory. The noticable differance between these two teams was the willingness by the Bisons to put the puck 'on the net' from anywhere on the ice. Team Thunder on the other hand seemed to want to get into the goal crease before they fired a shot. The game was fast and exciting to watch and the fans that were on hand were well entertained for the small cost of a night out at a junior hockey game; its too bad more fans haven't found their way to the arena in order to support the local hockey heros. The goaltending at both ends of the ice was excellent and overworked, the only blemish on the game was the score!
Travis Wallan was named Paul's Pizza offensive player of the game and Trevor Schwass was named Paul's Pizza defensive player of the game.
Scoring:
First period
1) Kristian Petit from Wallan and Bergmann  (PP)
Second Period
   (no scoring)
Third Period
2) Dylan Johnston from Sheen  (PP)
